My English tuition lessons with Mr Sean were very enjoyable and effective. My English grades were only Level 4s and 5s before I started tuition lessons. Mr Sean taught me various techniques which I can use to understand and analyse different text types. He pushes me hard in my critical thinking and always gives me constructive feedback, which has helped me deepen my analysis and evaluation of texts. With his consistent support and encouragement, my confidence in my essay writing skills went up and I began to enjoy studying English. Although I was taught by Ms Lyn for a short period, I think the content, tips and tricks she taught me, were all very useful. She answered each one of my questions with enthusiasm that I remembered, when I was writing my essays. She pointed out errors in my essays that I’ve never really thought were wrong. She nitpicks but I think it’s for the best, because it makes you write each sentence with intention and careful thought, instead of writing whatever immediately comes to mind.

My predicted score was 6 and i got a high 6 for lang lit. Classes with Miss Nithiya were really helpful to me, where she was very dedicated to giving me pointers for the many essays that I wrote. In addition, her passion and interest in the subject clearly demonstrated in classes also added to my interest in the subject, which motivated me.

For us, during this pandemic kids focus on more study (since not much CCA at schools) and we don’t find any difficult situation. And we joined the Mindlab when they finished Preliminary exam but from that with in short term its helped to improve their grade. So we decided to stay on for IB. We believe with kids efforts and Mindlab teacher and staff support our kids can achieve their academic goal!

In regards to the IB grades, my school originally predicted me a 35/45. However, I received a higher score than what was predicted!

English A: Lang&Lit was a subject I have been cautious about even prior to starting my IB journey – I knew it would be the subject I’ll struggle with the most. However, from the day of meeting her, Ms Lyn has always been patient with her teaching. She allowed me to see many various ways of writing essays, thus setting me free from the structures I have restricted myself with. In addition, she took time out of her schedule to mark work I have submitted ahead of our lessons. Under her guidance, I have managed to go from a low Grade 4 to a Grade 6 in the IB examination – a feat I did not expect!

Having struggled with both physics and lang lit in my first year as an IB student, I quickly turned towards outside help. The Mindlab tutors are unique because they are well-versed in the IB curriculum and have a wealth of resources and experience teaching it. The individual attention I was given every week forced me not only to constantly put in the work required to do well in the IB but also gave me a strong guide to ensure I was constantly improving and given feedback. My physics tutor, Mr Hong Yi, is one of the few physics teachers who is not only extremely comfortable with the curriculum but is also extremely clear in his explanations. I remember being surprised at how much I was picking up in every one of our 1.5 hour lessons. Similarly, Ms Lyn, my language and literature tutor, understands the standards that IB markers expect in our written work, and constantly give me feedback on how to improve my essays, imparting skills and knowledge that have dramatically improved my grades (from a low 5 to a 7). Despite not struggling in math, I decided to take on tuition since I was still unconfident in certain areas. My time with Mr David and Mr Kin Leong has no doubt improved not only my mathematical knowledge but my exam skills as well. I would like to extend my thanks and appreciation to my tutors at Mindlab for their constant belief in me and their hard work. Ms Naomi is a very great tutor as she is very patient with her students and actively give feedbacks. My son received a 7 for English, Maths and Econs. Mr Sean was very efficient in helping my son get an excellent grasp of how to analyse, organise and be clear when he writes. Ms Jenn helped to motivate my son to realise the importance and be willing to practise his papers. Mr Chee Teck taught well on the subject and my son benefitted from his teaching.

Mr Enrico has been very supportive with guiding me to understand topics by breaking down concepts. Explaining questions I was not able to answer step-by-step helped me point out and clear my misunderstandings. My daughter told me that Mr. Sean’s English classes were very effective and she could learn lots of important points during each class. And I know that Mr. Sean tried to arrange his time for her very often. She is a Math person so English L&L was her weak subject, but she survived with his great help! Mr. Enrico’s dedication and expertise in teaching math and physics during my IB journey were truly invaluable. His unwavering support and deep understanding of the subjects played a crucial role in my success. Under his guidance, I progressed from a high 6 to a safe and secure 7 in both math and physics. No matter how complex or trivial my questions were, he was always available to explain with patience and clarity. Ms Lyn has a flair for ensuring students stay focused and have fun while learning. She exposed me to a range of writing styles, which helped me cultivate my unique way of brainstorming, planning, and executing various essay topics. She always provided her views and opinions on global issues learned in Language and Literature, which inspired me to keep practicing and pushed me to be even better every day. It was intimidating at first as I was insecure about my abilities but Ms Lyn without fail always tries to think of solutions to improve my english skills.
